My Fallout 3 Mod List

enb 2019_12_01 11_03_16_45.jpg

This is the list with all the mods I used in my long Fallout 3 Walkthrough. This mod list was responsible for almost 400 hours of gameplay, most of it you see recorded.
Before you go any further, there are some things I want to make clear:

  • I’m no expert in Fallout 3 modding, so I probably will not have all the answers to your problems if you install everything I listed below.
  • This mod list was built around 2015. Many mods were updated, and newer mods appeared.
  • This was my first modded Fallout 3 experience. I may have made some mistakes along the way.
  • You must learn to use Fo3Edit and xLodGen to solve potential issues.
  • Don’t uninstall mods with plugins (ESM and ESP) mid-game. You have been warned.

Having said that, I hope the list below is helpful to you if you want to play Fallout 3 with mods.

Mod List (A-Z)

4K Anchorage Snowscape by MystiriousDawn - StevenNightfall - Turboscalpeu.
High-quality textures for terrains, rocks, and trees for Operation Anchorage DLC.
This mod wasn’t available when I played the DLC.

4K Lookout Landscape by MystiriousDawn - StevenNightfall.
High-quality textures for the terrain, rocks, and trees for Point Lookout. Lore-friendly color palette and placement.
Has Rustic Grass textures for Point Lookout.

8 Ball Perk by VampireMonkey

"When you get the lucky 8 ball, it will be removed and its default effect too.
Instead you'll get a perk that permanently adds +1 Luck to your SPECIALs.
If you already have the lucky 8 ball in your inventory, simply drop it and pick it up again for the mod to take effect.
This mod is incompatible with any other mod that changes the lucky 8 ball's script."

Simple mod but I liked it. It was removed from Nexus.

A Note Easily Missed by Puce Moose.

“A Note Easily Missed is an adventure mod for Fallout 3. It attempts to provide the attentive player with insight into the lives of several ordinary people before the nuclear disaster. If you do not care for reading notes, taking terminal quizzes, or exploring for the sake of exploring, then it is doubtful that this mod will appeal to you.”

This is the first Puce Moose quest mod for Fallout 3. There are no quest markers and no quest objectives. You have to find your way by reading notes, and terminals, besides solving puzzles.
A version compatible with FWE was later released on Nexus by DanielCoffey: Puce Moose Quest Mods - FWE

A World of Pain for Fallout 3 by Djmystro.

“This mod adds loads of new and detailed interior locations with an enemy stronghold vibe along with loads of new enemies to battle, several main quests, new companions, lots of new items to collect, loads of notes, and loads more tricks and traps.”

This mod adds many hours of content to the game. It rewards the player for exploring and completing his challenges.
The AWOP-FWE consumables mod makes the consumables of A World of Pain compatible with FWE standards.

Adjustable HUD by Gopher.
The mod allows you to adjust the hud elements as you see fit. It’s a must-have.

Advanced Recon Range Finder by Gopher

“Very simple mod that displays the distance to your target when zooming in on a scope/binoculars. Very useful if you do a lot of sniping and forget how far in you zoomed.”

A simple mod, but I can’t play without it. It’s good to know the distance of things you are aiming at.

Advanced Recon Thermal Nightvision by Gopher

“The basic aim of this mod is to add a lot of advanced hi-tech functionality such as variable night vision, thermal imaging to see through walls, water breathing, and much more. It adds several custom-made sets of headgear at the same time giving you the option to apply this hi-tech functionality to an existing in-game object. eg. Power Armor helmets.”

I wonder why Bethesda never added either thermal or night vision to the vanilla game.

Advanced Recon Stealth Armor by Gopher

“This mod adds several sets of stealth armor. Some of these are disguised so as not to be quite so obvious from a distance. Now you can choose your look and still be a ghost. Almost all the models are styled in the manner of existing FalloutNV and Fallout3 models, especially Brotherhood of Steel look and feel, with a touch of the Chinese armor style creeping in.”

Another mod by Gopher. If you plan on playing a stealth playthrough, this is for you.

Alphas Robot Overhaul by Deathclaw Alpha

“Adds terminals controlling Sentry Bots, Protectrons, Mr. Gutsies, the Handies in your house, and Robobrains, edits robot locations, adds unique robots belonging to certain NPCs, gives certain robots special attacks such as Protectrons with Plasma Storms, and much more!”

I like that not all robots use the same weapons. They use plasma, laser, and even railway spikes.
The file is no longer available on Nexus. If I find where the author uploaded the files, if they still exist, I post them here.

Alphas Raider Overhaul by Deathclaw Alpha

“Adds new raider hideouts, hidden Raider classes, edits existing hideouts, adds new weapons, an unmarked quest, and much more!”

As Alpha’s Robot Overhaul, this mod adds more variation to the raiders.
Be careful when installing the mod to not make the same mistakes I did: I left the esm and esp with the same name activated on the load order. Only enable the “Alpha’s Raider Overhaul FO3.esm”; the “Alpha’s Raider Overhaul - FWE.esp”; and the “Alpha’s Raider Overhaul - Pitt enabled”. This will avoid duplicated items in the game.
The file is no longer available on Nexus. If I find where the author uploaded the files, if they still exist, I post them here.

Alton IL - Huge World and Quest Mod created by Elijah Houck

“Alton, IL features an expansive quest in which you not only try to find your way home after ending up in my imagining of post-apocalyptic Alton, Illinois. But also choose sides at the brink of an all-out war between two factions. During your time in Alton, you will play through a branching adventure that will have you choose which faction you will side with for the rest of your stay. Will you side with the Plague, a group of damned vault dwellers seeking revenge, or will you fight with the Underground Railroad, the largest city in Alton?”

Fallout 3 doesn’t have many mods that add new maps to explore if compared to New Vegas. I must say, however, that I experienced crashes while exploring the ruins of Alton

Alton IL and FWE Power Armor Integration by potatosamurai.

“Adds night vision and carry weight bonus to the Rad Resistant Power Armor from the Alton, Il mod.”

A good mod that brings the Power Armors from Alton to FWE standards.

Alton Patches by cyb3rp0nk.
This is a patch for Alton - IL, made by Elijah Houck. It aims to fix some minor bugs and balance some aspects of gameplay to suit Fallout Wanderers Edition- FWE.

An Evening with Mr. Manchester by Puce Moose.

“An Evening With Mr. Manchester leads the player on an adventure through the use of various notes, hints, and puzzles. If you do not care for reading notes, taking terminal quizzes, solving puzzles, or exploring for the sake of exploring, then it is doubtful that this mod will appeal to you. Combat is kept to a minimum. That said, there are a few locations that may test your trigger finger as well as your brain.”

A version compatible with FWE was later released on Nexus by DanielCoffey: Puce Moose Quest Mods - FWE

Automatic Karma Perks by Gopher.
It’s a video tutorial showing how to change the Lawbringer Perk to be earned by the player with high good karma. Now you don’t need to waste a perk when leveling up.

Better Clutter and Furniture by Macintroll
Texture replacement for various clutter and furniture you see across the game. The link is to a repacked version, as the original file is no longer on Nexus.

Blackened (FWE MMM EVE Project Beauty patch) by BenWah - BlackRampage - Martigen
Fundamental compatibility patches for FWE, MMM, EVE, and Project Beauty. It’s a must-have. You still need some of the FOIP patches if WMK is installed.

Black Leather Armored Duster by Gopher
The mods add a unique black version of the Regulator Duster to the game.

Blending Graffiti by Pixelhate

“A small replacement mod to give the Graffiti a slight blending effect, revealing the underneath texture…”

It’s a subtle effect but looks better than the original. Also works for the graffiti found in The Pitt DLC.

BOS DX by Weijensen
High-quality mesh and textures for the Brotherhood of Steel power armor. You have some options to choose from.

CASM (Essential)
A must-have mod. It replaces the vanilla saving system with a much better one. It allows you to create multiple saves and quicksaves.

Cinematech by Gopher.
Adds film grain and styles to the game. Many options for you to choose from.
Effects were disabled in-game after episode 209, as ENB takes place in my walkthrough.

CONELRAD 640-1240 - Civil Defense Radio by Macabre Productions

“This adds 55 music tracks from the Atomic era, and 29 authentic public-service announcements from Civil Defense!”

Another radio mod for you to listen to when exploring the Capital Wasteland.

Custom Clouds Textures by myself
I always thought the game needed more cloud textures for more variation.
I have no plans for a public release. The textures aren’t the best and were meant for personal use with Dynamic Weather.

Darkened Interiors by Xepha537.

“Using Realistic Interior Lighting by Scarecrow23 as a very solid foundation, Darkened Interiors presents my own take on a darker interior lighting mod.”

The interiors look so much better with this mod. Vanilla game interiors are too bright, even interiors with few light sources.

DarNified UI F3 by DarN
DarNified UI For Fallout 3 mod is one of the best UI mods for Fallout 3. The link above is from Game Banana, as the original link is no longer available.

The D.C. Interiors Project by Chucksteel.
One of the most essential mods for Fallout 3. It adds new interiors to many boarded buildings across the Washington DC area. Also, a quest to find unique garden gnomes.

Director’s Chair by Gopher
You can control other visual mods from one menu. Works with Cinematech, Dynavision, and Imaginator.
I had this enabled in-game until episode 208. Then, I installed ENB shaders on the new and more powerful computer.

Dynamic Weather created by Xepha37.

“Remaining true to Bethesda’s vision of a polluted/radioactive/post-apocalyptic world, Dynamic Weather presents a more natural, progressively changing, weather system. Utilizing Bethesda’s original weather types, my own custom weather types, and assets from Skingrad’s Enhanced Weather, Dynamic Weather includes Rainstorms, Lightning Storms as well as Fog and Sandstorms.
In varying degrees and depending on cloud cover, Dynamic Weather has much darker nights than Vanilla Fallout 3. Some form of Night Vision (Night Vision Goggles/Night Ghoul Eyes (Mart’s Mutant Mod)) is recommended for the darkest nights.”

In my opinion, this is the best weather mod for Fallout 3. It also works well with some features of the Enhanced Weather mod, like rain and sound weather sound in interiors. So I recommend you follow the instructions on the mod page.

Dynavsion by Gopher (after episode 209, the effects were not used in the game because I started using ENB).
Adds dynamic depth of field to the game. The DOF can be customized to your liking.
I had this enabled in-game until episode 208. Then, I installed ENB shaders on the new and more powerful computer.

ENB preset by myself
I may need to release my settings to the public. You need to download the binaries from the ENB site.

Enclave DX by Weijensen
High-quality mesh and texture for the Enclave Power Armor. There are optional files to check.

Enhanced Blood Texture by dDefinder

“Increases the resolution size from 256 to 1024 and created new textures for the screen, world, wounds, and static blood decals. Esps are used to increase the size and appearance of the blood, adjustments to screen blood and add more giblets and new wounds related to the weapon type. ini will change max amount and lifetime for blood.”

This is a must-have mod in my Fallout 3 load order. The vanilla blood texture looks low quality when compared to this mod.

Enhanced Night Sky by CptJoker71
A high-quality texture replacement for the vanilla night sky.

Enhanced Weather - Rain and Snow by Skingrad24
Adds rain and snow to the game. Also, the weather sounds in the interiors. I use just some components compatible with Dynamic Weather as per instructions on its mod page.

Epic Mini Nukes by Weijiesen - 3AMt

“In detail; This mod changes the vanilla mini nuke explosions with the visually stunning explosion from EVE (New vegas).”

Warning: It also increases the radius of the explosion. Some scripted events, like the Enclave Vertibird dropping mini-nukes, may become deadlier if you don’t run away fast. The trap at Gold Ribbon Grocers is lethal with this mod installed. Toggle God Mode (tgm) with console commands to survive.

EVE by Weijensen.

“THIRTY-TWO new critical kill deaths! MANY new weapons, new muzzle flashes, projectiles, and more! If you don’t use energy weapons, you WILL, and if you already do, you’ll need to change your trousers.”

It’s hard to return to vanilla game visual effects after this mod. The energy effects look really nice when using VATS.

EVE - Lost and Found by Ranx31
Restores some cut content from the EVE mod. We have mods that restore cut content from other mods.

EXcalibr Ammo EXpanision by EARACHE42

“xCALIBR is a resource extension to Tubal’s CALIBR standard, providing a much a needed eye-candy upgrade, enhanced detail, and standardized resources for modders. It pumps up your FO3 experience with accurate boxes or detailed magazines for most munitions, hi-res bullets and casings (sized and shaped appropriately), scaled ballistic data, and enhanced features for modders.”

It’s one of those mods which add details to the often-neglected ammo and bullet departments of the game.

Existence 2.0 - Robot Radio by Macabre Productions.

“Featuring over 180 minutes of original music across 64 tracks & 55 minutes of original broadcast material featuring the robot DJ JunK’et, including an explorable studio location and quest.”

If you listen to the radio often, this mod is for you.

Fallout 3 Anniversary Patcher by lStewieAl - c6
Bethesda updated Fallout 3 to finally remove the Games For Windows Live. The problem is this broke FOSE (Fallout Script Extender) which prevents many mods from working. The Anniversary Patcher downgrades the game while maintaining the GFWL removal. It also includes the 4Gb patcher and the Mod Limit Fix mod. GOG, Steam, and Epic Games versions are compatible.

Fallout 3 Redesigned - Formerly Known as Project Beauty by Dracomies

“This is my attempt to improve the appearance of NPCs in Fallout 3. I have redesigned their facial structure to make them look more realistic and to better fit their personality. This removes the awkward skin tones and facial structures of vanilla FO3.”

Seriously, NPCs look much better and more natural than in the vanilla game.
It requires patches for FWE, EVE, and MMM if you use them. If you have issues like the white face bug, follow the instructions on the description page or watch this video I made showing the process.

F3TF - Fallout 3 Tick Fix (REPLACES Fallout Stutter Remover) by lStewieAl - carxt
Fixes the 64hz bug which caused the infamous micro stutter in the vanilla game. Totally replaces FSR, which was broken by Windows 10 update.

Fallout Stutter Remover (FSR_4-1-36) REPLACED WITH F3TF - Fallout 3 Tick Fix.
This mod was responsible for fixing the stutter commonly seen in the game. A Windows 10 (Fall Creators Update) in 2018 broke it. Don’t use it.

Fallout Wanderers Edition by FWE Team
A massive overhaul of the game mechanics. FOIP and Blackened page offer patches for the other essential Fallout 3 mods like Marts Mutant Mod (MMM), EVE, WMK, and Project Beauty.
All the changes and information can be found on their site.

Flora Overhaul - (Dead Edition) by Vurt
An impressive overhaul of the vegetation across the Wasteland. You have many options to choose from. I don’t think I can return to vanilla trees after using this mod.
There’s a small patch for the To Sleep - Perchance To Dream mod here.

FO3 Mod LImit Fix by iranrmrf
Fix the mod limit present in the game. You can have up to 255 active plugins (ESM and ESP). Depending on the circumstances, you can experience an increase in fps, the removal of game stutter, and faster loading times, especially when using a large number of mods.

FO3 Npc Travel by skyorange
The mod adds new NPCs and creatures traveling across the Wasteland. Their travel destination is determined by the script.
It’s incredible how this small mod adds to the game atmosphere. I often bumped into those NPCs traveling through the Wasteland. I traded with them and helped them to defeat raiders and hostile creatures.

FO3 Random Encounters Field Guide by RuskaTheBear
You can see in your pip-boy which random encounter you have triggered. You will be informed in real-time when you activate one of them. A map mark will be added to their location.

Fallout Interoperability Program - FOIP (WMK - FWE Patch) by Mezmorki
A collection of patches for compatibility between FWE, FOOK, and other mods. I use the Weapon Mod Kits (WMK) patch for Fallout Wanderers Edition. Works well along Blackened patches.

FOSE (Fallout Script Extender) by Ian Patterson (ianpatt), Stephen Abel (behippo), and Paul Connelly (scruggsywuggsy the ferret)
Extends the scripting capabilities of Fallout 3. FOSE is essential for other mods to work. Many mods on this list rely on it. The current version of FOSE will not work with the latest update for Fallout 3. You must use the Fallout Anniversary Patcher for it to work.

Gangs of the Wasteland by WastelandLoner
Adds various gangs of raiders to the game, wearing new armor and weapons. Now the raiders will not look all the same. Finally, we have some variation.

Gauss Rifle Hi-Res Retexture by Christopher Wallace
As the name suggests, it’s a high-quality retexture of the Gauss Rifle. I liked this one.

Ghoul Hires Retexture by Macintroll
Better quality textures for the (Non-feral) ghouls you meet in the Wasteland.
The mod was deleted from Nexus. If I find where the files are uploaded, I will update this.

Glowing Ghouls by UndeadCheetah.
Glowing Ones actually glow now. They’ll illuminate their surroundings like a light source. The mod may hit your performance.
The mod was archived on Nexusmods, so we can only access the vanilla game version here, and the Marts Mutant Mod version here. I don’t know what the “Glowing Ghouls - Death Glow-20321-1-1.zip” does. It’s here anyway.

GNR Enhanced by Raptre.
Expands Galaxy News Radi music list with 100 songs. The idea is to fit the game atmosphere. The mod also fixes many issues with the radio.

GOAT Perks by jog.

“Get a first perk when taking the G.O.A.T. exam. (16 new skill perks available only by taking the G.O.A.T.)”

It’s a simple mod, but now the GOAT exam is more interesting.

Gore Guts Retexture by Eckart3

“With this mod, the guts and gore will be more nasty, graphical, but not realistic at all, they’re thought to be just more nasty.”

Probably overwrite some mesh and texture from EVE and Enhanced Blood Texture. It’s up to you to choose from.

Hectrol Lock Interface by hectrol
Better quality texture for the lock interface you see during lockpicking.

Hellfire DX by Weijensen

"The ONLY Hellfire armor you need. More than 20 details were added. Bolts, Metal details, Mechanical and Technological pieces too.
Don’t forget this armor has a PULSING CORE special fx on the back! And fiery eyes fx, too. (This is much more than a ‘retex’).

Check the files available, as you have two versions to choose from. Hellfire Cinder, and Hellfire Surge."

Immersive Hud by Gopher.

“The aim of iHUD is to provide the immersive feel you get from having no HUD, whilst keeping the usefulness of having one. It takes the permanently visible HUD elements such as HP, AP, radar, etc., and hides them when not needed. Hence the motto:
HUD when you need it. HIDE when you don’t.”

This is a must-have mod. I take screenshots for the video intros, so this helps a lot.

Impact by Weijensen, and ported to Fo3 by mamelukturbo

“Impact is a mod that aims to bring a feeling of power and danger to ballistic weaponry by adding new VFX and decals.
This all began many years ago when I first played the title F.E.A.R., for in that game, the ballistic weapons felt very powerful and seemed dangerous as each impact caused very visible damage! Even to this very day, I still feel ‘new games’ often lack in that department where F.E.A.R. had succeeded. When playing FO3/FNV, the look, sound, and impacts of ballistics make them all feel like shabby pea-shooters. Well, I say no more!!! This mod is my humble attempt to get Fallout one meager step closer to ‘awesome shooter stuff’.”

The effects look much better than the original ones. There are three versions available. Choose the one that your PC can handle. Also, don’t forget the compatibility patches.

Imperfection - The Definitive Creature Mod (with Broken Steel support) by DeathclawAlpha
Adds new creatures to the Capital Wasteland, variations of the same species, and unique ones. It also has support for the Broken Steel DLC. The mod was archived on Nexus, so we only have access to the files when clicking on the two links above.

Impervious Power Armor by TheTalkieToaster.

“Impervious Power Armour makes power armor turn you into a walking tank rather than a tinfoil soldier. When geared up in it, you shrug off small arms entirely.
Whilst wearing any power armor (including any from mods), you gain a Damage Reduction equal to 25% of the armor’s full Armour Rating. For example, a suit of Brotherhood Power Armour with AR 40 grants a 10 reduction. Helmets give a reduction equal to their full AR, so a Brotherhood Power Helmet grants 10 Reduction. In addition, Metal Armour also grants the same bonuses - in order to make it a viable alternative to Combat Armour.”

With FWE installed, enemies with good weapons or stronger creatures can still kill you fast. I really liked this mod.

In The Shadow of The Swamp by Puce Moose.

“A shady doctor relocated to Point Lookout many years ago. Can you find his Point Lookout motel room and uncover his motivation for being there?”

Another quest mod created by Puce Moose. It’ll conflict with Point Lookout Reborn, but The Wasteland Patch Collection fixes most of the issues. This page on the S.T.E.P site has more info on fixing one final issue with the Punga fruits script. The page was archived here and here.
A version compatible with FWE was later released on Nexus by DanielCoffey: Puce Moose Quest Mods - FWE

IStewieAI’s Tweaks by lStewieAl

“An esp-less collection of Quality-of-Life improvements in one file with INI settings to enable tweaks.”

The amount of fixes and improvements added by this mod is insane. If my memory serves me well, both F3TF and Out Of Memory Fix are packed into this mod. So If you enable them in this INI file, you don’t need to activate said mods.

JIP Companions Command & Control by jazzisparis

“This mod is designed to vastly improve the way companions are interacted with. Using a HUD interface, companions can be given a selection of different commands, all remotely and in real time. Every companion will have its own avatar displayed on the HUD, with a health bar, and an indication of its current action.”

This is a must-have mod. It’s so much easier to control your companions.

JIP Realistic Weapon Overheating by jazzisparis

“This mod simulates the real-world, adverse effects of continuous, intensive fire which, if sustained long enough, can cause a firearm to overheat. An overheated weapon will gradually become extremely unreliable and much more prone to malfunctioning (jamming); Its accuracy will suffer, and its condition will begin to deteriorate much faster.”

This mod changed the way I use weapons in the game. Having your gun overheat and malfunction in combat was a real risk.

JIP Selective Fire by jazzisparis

“This mod introduces a selective-fire system into Fallout 3. Most projectile-type weapons, capable of automatic fire, will have two or more optional fire modes for the player to switch between - single/burst/auto.”

This mod makes you question why this feature wasn’t in the game in the first place.

Krzymar HI Res Moon by krzymar
Texture replacement for the moon. You have many options to choose from.
If my memory serves me well, I had some issues when installing it over Enhanced Weather moon textures. Some tweaking was necessary.

Large Memory Adress Enabler For Fallout 3 by NMC
Allows the game executable file to use more the 2 GB of ram. It’s essential if you are installing many mods.
I used CFF Explorer to enable the LAA flag in the executable. Always backup the files before doing anything.

Martigen’s Mutant Mod by Martigen

“MMMF3 focuses on adding a huge range of diversity to creatures and NPCs in the Fallout 3 world as well as adding new and unique creatures and NPCs to encounter.”

This is a must-have mod. It adds so much more variation to the creatures, super mutants, and even raiders you find in the Capital Wasteland. Has compatibility patches for FWE, EVE, and Fo3 Redesigned (Project Beauty).

Martigen’s Mutant Mod (The Merges version) by Hairylegs222 - robert01

“Combines mod’s plugins (Esps) into the master main plugin (esp/esm). Each mod is different having either an esp or esm as their master main plugin. The objective of this mod is to shorten your load order of plugins. v2.0 all merges have been remade by hairylegs222.”

Reduces the number of plugins of the mod. You still need to download the files from the MMM page and replace all plugins with the ones provided by this mod.

MG Neat Clutter by Mental Gear
High-quality textures for a hundred objects you see across the game world. I install NMC first, then this one.

Mod Organizer 2 (FOMM replaced, not working on the new computer)
I think this is the best mod manager for Fallout 3.

Mothership Zeta DLC Retexture by Weijensen.

“The spaceship looks like metal instead of cardboard now! The aliens look creepy instead of bland now! Zeta has been awesomefied. EVERY single last texture. Enjoy!”

Not many mods try to improve the textures of Mothership Zeta. I liked the visual improvement over the original textures.

New Mall - Franklin Mall by General Varrus II.

“My second mod adds a shopping mall for you to battle through in the Pennsylvania Avenue area. Fight your way through hordes of enemies in five fully-explorable areas to claim your reward!”

I like mods that add new areas or interiors for you to explore. It’s compatible with The DC Interiors Project.

New Office - Muldoon’s Electronics by General Varrus II
“My first experience with the GECK; this mod adds a new office near Super-Duper Mart with five areas to explore and a back story about what happened to the original inhabitants during the Great War.”
The interiors are well done and the reward is worth the time invested in the mod.

New Uniques by Ironman5000

“Adds lots of unique items scattered across the game and the DLCs. Find new armor, weapons, schematics, and misc items hidden away in locked locations, sold by vendors, used by new bosses and new encounters, and more! Includes most originally cut content and brand new items.”

The nice thing is that author spread all the unique items, so you have to find them. During my playthrough, I found many things by accident.
You may want to adjust the values of weapons and armor to match the FWE standards.

New Vegas Anti Crash (Works for Fallout 3!) by Queued

“NVAC (short for New Vegas Anti Crash) is an NVSE plugin that implements structured exception handling and sanity checking to reduce the frequency of game crashes.”

This mod also works on Fallout 3. It’ll prevent many crashes. It just works. One thing this mod can’t fix is user stupidity.

NMC Texture Pack (Large) by NeilMc_NMC
A texture pack that covers most of the game textures (does not cover the DLCs). Your game will look much better with this installed. Use this as a base and install other texture packs on top if you want to change things.

Omnis Hires Pip-boy 3000 by OmniDeath
A high-quality texture for your pip-boy 3000. It’s much better than the original.

Out of Memory Fix by lStewieAl

“The game has a limit of 2GB memory (4GB when the game has been 4Gb patched) which is quickly reached when playing with many high-quality textures. Textures are stored in VRAM but are also copied into the RAM. This plugin lets the game keep textures solely on the graphics card in VRAM to save on memory.”

This mod is included in the lStewieAl’s Tweaks, so if you have it enabled there, don’t enable the standalone mod.

Out of Pip-Boy Interactions by claustromaniac
With this mod you can:

  • Use hotkeys to eat and drink without using the pip-boy. Consume food, drinks, and chems, and read books you find laying around.
  • Equip weapons and apparel that lay around. Also, drop your currently equipped weapon.
  • Equip weapons and apparel. Also, consume ingestible directly from containers and dead bodies.

The fact that you no longer need to access your pip boy to eat and drink is a great selling point for this mod.

Outcast DX by Weijensen
New mesh and textures for the Outcast Power Armor. There are some optional files in the download section.

Point Lookout Reborn by Jcro25

“Point Lookout Reborn is an overhaul mod designed to make Point Lookout more enjoyable, level friendly and mainly to make exploration more rewarding. This mod contains many lore-friendly changes and improvements that fit in with Point Lookout’s environment. Point Lookout Reborn is all about exploration. Those who take the time to explore the vast swampland will be rewarded with over 50% more additional content and around 2-3 hours of extended gameplay on top of the original 8 hours expected to complete everything. A series of over 400 corrections and improvements to navmesh, dialogue, coding, quests, landscape, and packages on top of the additional content aims to ensure a richer and more rewarding experience for everyone.”

It’s more content for Point Lookout. I enjoyed exploring the new locations and interiors.
The mod will conflict with In The Shadow Of The Swamp mod. The Wasteland Patcher Collection addresses most of the issues. There’s one issue remaining with the punga fruit script. The fix was to copy the two records (xx004269 and xx00426a) from “PointLookout.esm” to “PointLookout Reborn.esm”. Drag and drop in their respective locations (USE Fo3Edit).

Potomac Steamworks by TheSpiritOfNewReno.

“This is my restoration of the cut Potomac Steamworks. The entrance is right outside Anacostia Crossing.”

Mods that restore cut content are always welcome. More areas for you to explore.

Reilly’s Rangers Expanded by Tubal.

“This initial version adds new rangers as guards for the compound, a merchant, a player-owned tent, a wearable ballistic mask, and a few other minor tweaks. All features will become available by returning to Reilly with mapping data. Currently, there is no consideration for how much data is needed, so 1 map marker is all that’s needed to unlock another step. Leave the area for a day or so for the expansion to take place.
Also, retextures the Ranger Battle Armor and the ranger logos decorating the place.”

I like mods that try to expand the faction-related content in the game. You can see the effects of your efforts as their base improves over time.

RH Ironsights - FOSE by roguehollow.

“RH_IronSights is a comprehensive model, texture, and animation replacement package meant to ‘unlock’ iron sights aiming in Fallout 3.”

It’s hard to go back to the vanilla game aim system after using this. The lack of proper iron sights is bad.
Patches for FWE, EVE, and WMK are still needed, even with the Paradox version.

RH Ironsights (The Merges version) by Hairylegs222 - robert01

“Combines mod’s plugins (Esps) into the master main plugin (esp/esm). Each mod is different having either an esp or esm as their master main plugin. The objective of this mod is to shorten your load order of plugins. v2.0 all merges have been remade by hairylegs222.”

Reduces the number of plugins of the mod. You still need to download the files from the RH Ironsights page and replace all plugins with the ones provided by this mod.

Rustic Grass by turboscalpeur

“Simple replacement mod for the Grass in FO3. Two Different Versions are available. Comes in 4K and 2K. New Mushrooms & Point Lookout DLC’s Grass in Optional Files.”

I used the Point Lookout grass. Also available on the 4K Lookout Landscape mod page.

Safe Regulator HQ by Talthybius
It’s a simple but essential mod if you collect fingers for the Regulators or use the Regulators mod. It removes two spawn points which caused creatures to spawn near their headquarters and kill the brahmin and even the Regulators themselves.

Smart Almost Perfect by VampireMonkey

“When you take the Almost Perfect perk, if you have collected any bobbleheads, you’ll be given their individual stat boosts.
Meaning you’ll have 10 points on those SPECIALs which you have the bobbleheads for.
When you first install the mod, it will check if you already have the perk and grant you stat boosts for the bobbleheads you already have collected.”

The mod was removed from Nexus, and I don’t know any link for the file.

Shadow and Dust - Tales from Southwest DC by DonLemonade

“This is primarily an exploration mod. This mod adds eight new interconnected interiors to explore, filling out some of the boarded-up buildings near the Nuka-Cola Plant and Bailey’s Crossroads (Operation Anchorage). Within these areas, you will face darkness, death, and the haunting histories of the dead.”

I recommend you download the Shadow and Dust - Cleaned mod. The plugin is cleaned from ITSM and UDR dirty edits that could lead to a CTD.

Shadow and Dust - Volume 2 by DonLemonade

“This is primarily an adventure/exploration mod. This mod adds seventeen new interconnected interiors to explore, filling out some of the boarded-up buildings in Dupont Circle, Georgetown, near Farragut West Station, and Arlington South. Within these areas, you will face darkness, death, and the haunting histories of the dying. All seventeen interiors are fully navmeshed and companion friendly. You may want some company, as many of these interiors are very dark by design.”

Well-done interior mods are not as common in Fallout 3 as in New Vegas.

Stealth Kill Enabled by Attentater5

“Stealth Kills Enabled changes the way that detection works in Fallout 3. Now, when you commit an assault or murder, only those who witness or hear the event will rush to intervene. This means that with a little stealth, you can pick off people who stray too far from other citizens with ease. Be warned, though - if you take down somebody in plain view of other people, the murder won’t just be ignored!”

This mod fixes one big issue with the vanilla game detection system.

Subtle Sun Glare by CptJoker71
Replaces the vanilla sun glare texture. The sun glare is subtle, but I liked it.

Swampfolk Backwater Retexture by DeathclawAlpha
Retexture of the swamp folks of Point Lookout. Currently removed from Nexus.

Tenpenny Tower Alternate Endings by FMod.

“Adds alternate solutions to the Tenpenny Tower quest. You have an opportunity to save the human residents after the ghouls move, or to only assassinate Roy Phillips without harming other Warrington Station residents for the human-only ending. Preserves the original endings rather than overwrite them.”

Spoilers: The fact that Tenpenny Tower residents were killed in a peaceful solution always frustrated me. This mod makes real peace a possibility.

Tesla Power Armor DX by Weijensen.
High-quality mesh and texture for the Tesla Power Armor. Check the optional files if available.

The IMAGINATOR for FO3 - Visual Control Device by MyGoodEye and Marcurios.

“It allows you to separately control visual elements like Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Light Output, Depth-of-Field, Focus, Motion Blur, and Tint all from within an easy-to-navigate PIP-BOY menu. Never before have you had such power! Seriously.”

I had the Trek Vaseline Cam effect enabled in-game until episode 209. Then, I installed ENB shaders on the new and more powerful computer.

The Overpass - Remastered by Janitor Dave - Original mod by JkKILER.

“The remastered version of The Overpass has made its return to Nexus Mods! In this mod, engage in a completely unmarked quest exploring a mysterious overpass near Arefu, piecing together the events that occurred prior to the Lone Wanderer’s arrival.”

The remaster fixed the issues of the original mod. A great job by Janitor Dave.

The Regulators by WilliamSea

“Having joined the Regulators after getting the Lawbringer perk, you notice a computer in the downstairs room. From it, you accept contracts on fugitives and their gangs all over the Wasteland. It’s time for some wasteland justice!
47 missions with a Perk reward. You can then continue random contracts after you finish the main quests.”

I wonder why Bethesda never added a quest to hunt criminals through the Wasteland. The Regulators were underutilized in the vanilla game.

The Wasteland Patch Collection by Deadmano.

“Greetings fellow Wastelanders! Are you tired of downloading and installing multiple mods and then realizing (or not) that certain functionality has stopped working? Are you unable to forward the changes yourself using the tools available to you, or simply lack the time/motivation needed to do so? Do you simply want a one-stop fix to get all your lovely mods to work nicely together the way they were meant to as envisioned by their respective modders? If you have answered ‘YES!’ to any of the above then The Wasteland Patch Collection has quite the surprise in store for you! If not, well, get it anyway as I can promise you it will enrich your Fallout 3 experience (in conjunction with the required mods for the patches to operate of course).”

A must-have collection of patches for many mods. Follow the instructions before doing anything.

Trenton Towers by General Varrus II

“Adds a new pre-War condominium near Dukov’s Place with 8 areas for you to battle through and explore!”

Another building to explore with stories to uncover. It’s compatible with The DC Interiors Project.

T51b DX by Weijensen.
New mesh and textures for the T51b Power Armor.
If you have the other (Winterized) T51b variant, you’ll have to use the compatibility file to avoid the glowing mesh bug. First, install the T-51b DX, then the Winterized DX mod. Install the Winterized DX “NEEDED MESHES” last. Now you use the WinterizedT51bDX.esp from the compatibility download. It’s the only esp you need, even though you use both. You need only the compatibility plugin and not the Winterized DX plugin. They have the same name.

The Mantis Imperative by Puce Moose

“…This is an adventure mod that leads you into the troubled past of Mantis Labs, a company that flourished before the Great War due to certain technological advances pioneered by its scientists. Even though its employees are long since dead, something lives on within its walls…”

It’s the fifth and final quest mod created by Puce Moose for Fallout 3. Like in other Puce Moose mods, there are no quest marks. You have to pay attention and investigate your surrounding to advance. Depending on your choices at the end, more quests are given through the Mantis Radio.
You only need to activate The Mantis Imperative - Mantis esp file.

To Sleep Perchance to Dream by Puce Moose.

“To sleep, perchance to dream takes the player on a surreal adventure through the use of various notes, hints, and puzzles. If you do not care for reading notes, taking terminal quizzes, solving puzzles, or exploring for the sake of exploring, then it is doubtful that this mod will appeal to you. Combat is kept to a minimum. Only in the sunset of this adventure will you become obligated to bear force against those who seek to do you harm.”

It’s the third mod created by Puce Moose for Fallout 3. Again, there are no quest marks, so you must pay attention to your surroundings, every note, and holotape to complete the quests.

Tribal DX by Weijensen
High-quality mesh and texture for the Tribal Power Armor (The Pitt DLC).

UHQ Terrain, Rock, Roads & Grass Overhaul by Marcurios
It’s likely the best terrain texture mod for Fallout 3. High-resolution textures for terrain, rocks, roads, and even grass. It has even better LOD meshes for the rocks. They look so much better when looking from far away.
Install this mod on top of any texture mod for terrain, rocks, roads, and grass.

UIO - User Interface Organizer by jazzisparis.

“A FOSE-powered plugin that is designed to manage and maintain all UI/HUD extensions added to the game by various mods. Once installed, UIO will ensure UI extensions are always properly installed and, when necessary, properly removed; it will automatically detect, resolve and prevent UI-related issues, and will help keep the game’s UI intact.”

This is a must-have mod, no questions asked. All the HUD/UI mods need UIO.

Ultimate Perk Pack by TheFakeEmpire
A modular pack of perks for Fallout 3. You can choose the ones you want:

  • UPP - Original Perks: Makes alterations to the original perks of Fallout 3.
  • UPP - Experience Perks: Earn some original perks via your various repeated actions. I have this one installed.
  • UPP - Pack 1: Adds nearly 40 balanced, innovative, funny, and fun perks to the game.
  • UPP - Pack 2: Adds 27 new perks to complement and expand Pack 1, most of them with new icons.
  • UPP - Quest Perks: Adds perks to the game that are obtained through completing quests. I have this one installed.
  • UPP - Beverage Perks: Adds perks to the game relating to the consumption of beverages.

Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch by Hairylegs222 RoyBatterian BenWah
The updated version of the Fallout 3 Unofficial Patch. It fixes an insane amount of things in the game. It’s essential in any mod list.
Important: I use the old 2.3.2 version because it has a compatibility patch for FWE.

Vault 87 Redesigned by TheSpiritofNewReno.
What this mod does is make Vault 87 make more sense. The vault entrance is restored, as the Vault 87 jumpsuits and more.

Washington’s Malevolence by JanitorDave

“Washington’s Malevolence is a huge quest mod for Fallout 3 and Tale of Two Wastelands, where the Lone Wanderer travels to the fictional Maddox Island in search of the Rocky Cape Bank, a pre-War bank that is said to contain untold riches. Players will also get to explore multiple locations around the island with interesting backstories and meet plenty of different personalities that are sure to leave an impression that lasts.”

I have a much better experience with this mod than Alton. It’s really stable and Maddox Island was fun to explore. The mod received many updates and is even more polished now.

Wasteland Violence by Rooker75

“Adds a number of combat encounters between rival groups of NPCs, a squad of Brotherhood soldiers who will patrol the DC ruins, and a band of Regulators who will attack raider camps.”

I like what this mod does. The Lone Wanderer isn’t the only one doing things across the Capital Wasteland.

Weapon Mod Kits by antistar

“Adds Weapon Modification Kits to the Wasteland, which allow you to modify your weapons with silencers, extended magazines, auto-fire mechanisms, laser sights, and scopes.”

It’s nice to have the option to customize your weapons. I added a laser sight and an extended magazine t a missile launcher. It was great.
I was not able to add modifications to some unique weapons. Looks like WMK will clash with mods editing and adding new meshes to many special weapons in the game (RH Ironsights does that). You will not be able to customize them.

xLodGen (with Fo3LodGen resources)
An essential mod if you use mods that edit the terrain and add new objects to the map. If you want to regenerate the LOD of any world space, it’s better and faster than the GECK LOD generation.

Fo3/xLodGen generates tree LODs as objects, so don’t use the Generate Trees LOD option. You only need to generate Terrain and Object LODs.
You must download the resources from the Fo3LodGen page (thanks, Zilav). You also need the proper files from the mod page if using any version of Vurt’s Flore Overhaul.

Quick instructions on how to launch (Fo3/xLodGen from ModOrganizer:

“Mod organizer users: Install FO3LODGen in a directory of your choice. Add FO3LODGen.exe to MO executable list by clicking the gears button and then browse for FO3LODGen.exe to fill the “Binary” field. Add a dedicated output directory by adding -o:“C:\FO3LODGenOutput” to the “Arguments” field. Once LOD generation has completed copy/move files from the dedicated output directory to the game data directory or into a custom mod (recommended for load order management) in MO.”

Well, that was a lot to read, but I hope you liked it. I don't think I forgot anything, but the post will stay updated with anything I remember.
